Jones to Replace Kraft as NFL Network Committee Chair

By John Ourand, Staff Writer -- Sports Business Daily, 10/08/2007

The NFL plans to name Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Chair of the NFL Network Committee later today. He replaces Patriots Owner Robert Kraft, who takes over as Chair of the league's Broadcast Committee for Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen. Jones' main order of business is to improve distribution for the network, which is in about 44 million homes. In a press release due out later today, Jones hinted that the league will start pushing consumers to non-cable alternatives.

"Today there are more options than ever before for consumers in terms of choosing a television provider," Jones said, referencing satellite and telephone companies. "Those fans whose access to NFL Network is still being blocked by their cable provider will have both the opportunity and the incentive to switch providers if cable continues to deny customers the programming they want."
