Comcast: Verizon Taking Our TV Customers

Company president also says cable op will add HD channels in the fourth quarter.

Comcast President Steve Burke said yesterday the nation's largest cable operator is feeling the heat from increased competition from satellite and telco services.

In fact, according to Reuters, Burke told the Goldman Sachs investment conference that Verizon's new FiOS TV service is capturing some of its customers.

"We're seeing a lot more competition. Verizon is taking video customers from us," Burke said.

The emergence of triple-play services from telcos Verizon and AT&T has escalated the war between communications providers. While cable once only had to watch out for the satcasters, it now has to worry about telco services which are moving into their territories with aggressive offerings.
